In jazz, improvisation happens within a clear framework. Only structure creates freedom.

The same is true for organizations. Companies never act in a vacuum but based on resources, capabilities, and patterns. The difference between planning and improvisation is not the absence of order, but the way uncertainty is viewed.

Planning seeks to reduce uncertainty. Improvisation works with it.

In dynamic environments, improvisation is a strategic capability. It allows organizations to respond to the unexpected while creating opportunities that no plan could anticipate.

Why Most AI Conversations Miss the Point

If AI is intelligent, what exactly do we mean by intelligence?

Every dinner conversations about AI confuse performance with understanding. We see a model write code, find bugs, compose poetry, or answer difficult questions and conclude that it must be intelligent.

But performance and understanding are not the same thing.

AI can produce impressive outputs without necessarily understanding them in the way humans do. Before debating whether AI is intelligent, we should first agree on what intelligence actually means.

Doing so would eliminate half of today's AI discussions and leave us with more time to complain about Berlin rents.
